Bible Study: We are worshippers (True Identity)

True identity: Understanding our life and mission as a church.

We are worshippers.

Starter
(In pairs or threes) How do you describe our church to other people? Why would/wouldn’t you describe us as ‘a worshipping community’?

Read Romans 12:1-2.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Questions
What things must be true for these verses to make sense?

Why is important that mercy precedes sacrifice in the passage?

‘Sacrifice’ is a stark word; how can worship be costly for us?

What motivators are there for us to offer our bodies gladly when the sacrifice is great?

If a non-Christian friend asks you about this evening, what things would you like to be able to share?
